Connecting with students in the mobile world

Connecting students through mobile is overriding. Simply stated, the mobile era is here to stay, and mobile apps are an overwhelmingly important part of it.  Statistics show that almost all students between 17 and 25 years of age have smartphones, and when they need to check information or access content, they do so via a mobile app.

Fact:  86% of students recently indicated a preference for mobile apps over mobile web/browser based solutions to access school information.

Mobile Communication has Become more Effective – Connecting students through mobile

Students are accustomed to app notifications and instant chat messaging.  Emails are checked less frequently by today’s students, jeopardising an institution’s ability to properly engage and communicate with them.  As mobile adoption has grown, the email channel is becoming less and less effective.

As a result, it is imperative that institutions account for a mobile app strategy to effectively reach students.  Mobile notifications can provide a way for schools to ensure that their student messages are seen and read.

In addition, a school mobile app can help build awareness and access to vital student services, links, and resources.  Apps can also provide a great way to keep students engaged and motivated.  Recent studies show that today’s students spend over 4 hours a day on mobile devices, and 90% of the time is spent in apps (see chart below).

The Engage2Serve student mobile app was designed to enable colleges and universities to leverage the power of mobile technology to effectively engage with current and prospective students.  It allows online teaching through mobile in unprecedented times like what we are in today.  Additional functionality is available to extend the mobile app into a comprehensive Recruitment, Retention or Advancement solution.

Benefits of using mobile apps in higher education institutions:

Some of the benefits that institutions using mobile apps are seeing include the ability to:

  1. Ensure effective student communications
  2. Build the institution brand
  3. Offer students access to critical support resources in the palm of their hand
  4. Provide mobile services to students that are becoming a “must have” offering in Higher Ed
